why hello there! welcome to my little corner of the world wide web :D this place is just a personal spot for me - a reprive from modernity, social media, and all the stressors of the offline world!
this site is, in a way, a tribute and love letter to the internet, the old web, technology, and all my fuzzy, half-forgotten, fully-forgotten, or repressed childhood memories of the basement computer room in my childhood home
i havent built this with any real, concrete idea in mind for what it will be. if there was one goal for it id probably say a kind of digital scrapbook?
some things i hope for it are a place to keep my art and writing, and a kind of blog or journal of some kind! and, of course, this is a way for me to learn coding
this site exists simply because i fell in love with technology, and fell out of love with social media. i wanted to build a place for myself, that reflected myself in a way i find is harder to achieve on most social medias - the closest ive found is tumblr, but im also just chronically bad at using social media nowadays!
my first real experiences with technology are probably lost to time in the depths of my mind, but tech has been a part of my life my whole existence. both of my parents worked for adobe when i was a child - now only my dad still does, though my mom does still work in tech too!!
my first memory of a computer was the one in the computer room in the basement of my childhood home. it was one of those old chunky ones - thick, manilla-coloured, with a curved screen. i honestly wasnt allowed on it most of the time - which is fair because i was a small child - and i have no real memories of using it, outside of the vaguest knowledge that i did. i remember sitting on my fathers lap as he googled images of kittens to show me, and being amazed at them :3
technically speaking this isnt actually my first ever website - when i was little there was a bring-your-kid-to-work day once where dad brought me to his office and there was a little "learn to build a website" workshop thing for the kids. i dont remember anything about the site i made that day except that i think it was call, simply, [deadnames] website. i definitely don't remember anything i learned then though, i had to completely relearn how to do html for this site
honestly i likely have less old web experience - or even just general technology usage - than a lot of other neocities makers. i was born in 2003, and wasnt allowed on technology for nearly my entire childhood. i first started playing video games at 7 - though always with my dad watching over me, and i didnt play a lot since i was especially bad at the controls - and got my first laptop at age 15, two years after i got my first smart phone. and even then i wasnt really exploring the internet yet. i stayed mostly on average social media, like instagram and tumblr. i didnt start truly wanting to learn more about the internet and how to code until i was i think 17, and i barely even tried coding stuff then. this is i think my first true attempt at making anything with code thats went anywhere!! and im glad it has, working on this site has been some of the most fun ive had recently
